Monsters: Werewolf by Mark Hurst
So just did a quick sketch. I've never been big on horror movies or anything like that but the classic monster movies were always interesting to me. Mainly the Universal Monsters, and specifically the Wolf Man because it was more of a curse then it was just him being this so called Monster.

Cover Redo: Thor #168 by Mark Hurst
So, I just finished reading a book about Jack Kirby so with that still fresh in my mind I decided to do a Kirby cover. I came across Thor #168 where he is chasing down Galactus, who stops him and begins telling his origin. I thought it was pretty interesting so I started to sketch only to find out that the design I was doing was similar to the continuation of the story in Thor #169. So enjoy of the variations I did with this (all have minor changes that you probably can't tell). Here are the covers for 168 &169.

Man with No Name by Mark Hurst
So when I think western I think Clint Eastwood, as I'm sure many do. Just trying some different things in Photoshop.

Stand Up Comedian: Gabriel Iglesias
So, first off as for favorite stand up, I really don't have a favorite. But, Iglesias was on my mind this past week so here it is. Mr. Fluffy himself and the little girl (don't remember her name) from Despicable Me. The idea popped into my head and I had to draw it. Had tons of fun doing this since I got to sit around and just watch standup on Netflix. Great pic for this week.

Mr. Miracle & Big Barda, A Special Night
OK, so I honestly don't think I have ever read a New Gods story. I feel kind of bad because I love Kirby's work and as any comic fan would say, great work. Any way, my exposure to Mr. Miracle and Barda is pretty limited and what I have seen is Barda is pretty straight forward and Scott, well he just doesn't always seem to get it. But here's my take.

Charlton Heston: My Gun by Mark Hurst
So this stems from a conversation with a friend the day of Heston's death which was something to this "quick now, someone go get his gun" So here we go, a vengeful Heston pissed that someone took his gun. Thanks Mike for the theme, had tons of fun doing this one.

Avengers Redo By: Mark Hurst
OK so normally, opposed to some people's beliefs, I'm not really all that political. But every four years the mud slinging begins and everyone focuses on BS stances that they don't plan on following once they get in office. Personally I think this is most politicians. No one ever really focuses on big issues that are more important long term then short term. So the idea of them fighting among themselves is pretty much what this cover was about so it popped in my head. Plus I love how as Americans no (except for the good voters) pay attention to politics until a presidential election year. Me included.

Ketchup: Minions of Apocalyps: Kalibak by Mark Hurst
So with some downtime and it being a "Ketchup" week I figured I'd do the Minions of Apocalypse since I really really wanted to draw Kalibak. Here he be, and I have to say was actually a lot of fun to draw. Kalibak always reminded me of something like the bastard child of a troll and werewolf or something with his huge head of hair/fur. Kind of want to do more of him but set it up a long the lines of a happy go lucky guy skipping through flowers or something... not sure why?

PopMusik: RollingVenom by Mark Hurst
So just went through a bunch of album covers and well this Rolling Stones cover is pretty recognizable and when I saw it I immediately thought of Venom and how his tongue is always all over the place. Awesome choice Rich, had tons of ideas I still want to do because of this.

Game Night: FPS by Mark Hurst
So for some reason this isn't what I had in mind when I decided on Game Night... but this is what popped into my head and what I went with. Maybe at some point I'll post my other sketch with the JLA Poker Night.

Tim Burton: does Spidy By: Mark Hurst
So I really had no idea what I wanted to do for this weeks theme. I started to do a goofy sketch of Spidy and thought how weird it would have been for Tim Burton would have got a crack at doing it. So I added a half ass drawing of Burton, badly I might add. But here it is anyway. Enjoy.

Something X-Mas? by Mark Hurst
Here is my something xmas image. Not really sure why I ended up doing a zombie like Santa, it just kind of felt right, as strange as that is. Well I hope everyone has happy holidays and a great new year. See you all next year.

Turtle by: Mark Hurst
Well here's my sketch for this week. I grew up watching and reading anything I could with the Ninja Turtles on it. It wasn't until much much later I realized where they had come from. So here's a more traditional turtle (no colored headband). Plus it had been a while since I had broke out the prisma markers so it turned out better then expected.

Narrative: Maynards by Mark Hurst
OK so I know it's a couple days late but here is my narrative. All I have to say about this strip is... well it was a quick sketch and pretty much sums up any new employees first day at my job.

Obsure Myth: Pele by Mark Hurst
Sorry this is a few days late... and not more then some line work. OK, so I did a search for some sort of myth that I have not heard of which turned to be a little more difficult than I imagined. Any way, I came across a myth about a Hawaiian Goddess called Pele. She intrigued me because her travels from her homeland to the Hawaiian Islands is the story behind the creation of volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of Fire. One of the things I decided to depict on this was a part of the myth of all of Pele's lovers who wronged her and supposedly were covered in molten lava as punishment.

The Mighty Thor Annual #2 by: Mark Hurst
OK, so not completely done to a point of satisfaction. I would like to add Volstagg and the other warriors three in the image at some point.

STNG Poster: Q Who? by: Mark Hurst
So, I've never been a huge Star Trek person. I've enjoyed them but didn't grow up watching it like most people. But because of a recent addiction to netflix I have started watching the series. Because of this I am not to far into the series. I have always been interested in the Borg and never really knew the back ground on how they were introduced in the series. So being interested in both Q and the Borg, this episode works great.

Jack Kirby Romance: Daredevil by Mark Hurst
Ok, so I thought this was a great theme and have enjoyed them so far. So here's my take on it, while I'm not really sure what the hell is going on in the real cover... it kind goes that I'm really not sure what the hell is going on in my retake of the cover. I just love the idea of Daredevil fearing dancing and especially the samba.

B. Franklin vs Lightning by: Mark Hurst
So I really like this weeks theme, but as usual kind of ran out of time. But here is what I got. I kind of want to do a comic about this... Ben Franklin didn't get hit by lightning with a key on a kite... he got hit while trying to get into his place and a lightning monster attacked him. Yeah that's how it really went down.
