Mr Holiday

Well, it is the holiday season & I love the monster theme, so here's an oldie for the holidays :) !  The idea was a Dr.Jekyll & Mr.Hyde character.  Just that he'd turn into a T-Rex monster.

Happy Holidays all!

Sea Monster

Nom! Nom! Nom!  'Cause we were eating lunch today at Chipotle, and AF came up.  We are not dead!
That's right, I'm giving our blog a bump.  This one is a bit older, but it was fun to do.  The idea was based on a Cthulhu type monster for a possible game encounter for an MMORPG (see how the poor creature has been scared by the ghostly man in the odd boat :)  ).

ZBrush Head by Josh Purple

This kinda' sucks :) (well... not just kinda' :D ), but it's a Sunday night, so I thought I'd post up my draft / learning work with a ZBrush head (indeed, I'm a complete newbie with ZBrush).  Hopefully I'll be able to post-up some decent progress/improvement in the next few months (years, ...decades :)  ).

Monsters: Gojira, by Josh Lynch

Almost everyone has done a Godzilla at this point right? He's just so damn fun to draw.

Monster; "Samurai Umber Hulk Mind Flayer," by Josh Purple

The Samurai  Umber Hulk Mind Flayer :) .   The perfect monster bad guy for Zatoichi to defeat (since Zato is blind, he would be immune to the Umber Hulk's four eyes).  Lots of good brain eating scenes would be a must.

*full image size = size created at in photoshop.

Monsters: Werewolf by Mark Hurst

So just did a quick sketch. I've never been big on horror movies or anything like that but the classic monster movies were always interesting to me. Mainly the Universal Monsters, and specifically the Wolf Man because it was more of a curse then it was just him being this so called Monster.

Original Work: the Wild West Was Here, by Josh Lynch

This is a smattering of pages from book two of the the creator owned comic I do with fellow AF hood Justin Zyduck.

Original Work: Nevic - "Outnumbered" by Mike McMahon

I created Nevic years ago back in college and his larger story has changed and evolved over the years, but finally found the right one and had a first issue self-published last year. Still working on the long overdue second issue. I've done a few short stories with him as well.

Featured in the drawing is Desi Lennox, Tal Nevic, and Kron

Original Work: still untitled werewolf comic by Eric Schuster

Original Work: "Dudes," by joshpurple

No doubt, this is my most original work, style, concept, etc.  Since before I can remember ( like.. ~ 3 or 4 years old?), this is me creating art; pen, pencil, crayon, on paper, etc. doodling creatures/characters quickly.  Hopefully, if you can see this at full scale, -it's pretty much the scale at which I draw these characters out.  I would LOVE to doodle out pages and pages and pages of characters like this, all connecting along 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper.  I've attempted to do comics, cartoons, children's books, posters, t-shirts, etc. with my characters (even a company once, "Dudes by Josh"), all resulted in complete failure :D .

Cover Redo: Thor #168 by Mark Hurst

So, I just finished reading a book about Jack Kirby so with that still fresh in my mind I decided to do a Kirby cover. I came across Thor #168 where he is chasing down Galactus, who stops him and begins telling his origin. I thought it was pretty interesting so I started to sketch only to find out that the design I was doing was similar to the continuation of the story in Thor #169. So enjoy of the variations I did with this (all have minor changes that you probably can't tell). Here are the covers for 168 &169.

Westerns - Dean Martin from Rio Bravo

Dean Martin, takin it easy and singing "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me." I really love this song.

Monsters in the Artwork: The Great Wave off Kanagawa vs The Rancor by Mike McMahon

I pretty much rushed this, but you'll get the idea, but as soon as I saw "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by Hokusai, I immediately saw the idea of a Rancor going up against it

Monsters in the artwork: "Godzilla The Starry Night," by Josh Purple

Fast, fun, and after having a great time at SpringCon, -I was inspired by Eric Schuster :) (the wiki of all things 'zilla!).
Reference from this Godzilla here;

So I had fun with this, and I got to watch Creature From The Black Lagoon again. So this is a painting I found I'm not sure who the artist is, which is bad on my part. Enjoy.
